Taking the NDO on tour and making recordings with portable gear was always going to be difficult.
The OBA 9’s with passive mixers could be exciting, since adjusting a rotary fader in a block of 4 would affect the sound levels from the other 3 !
In addition, the number of channels needed for the Band ensured that a room full of rotary faders and glowing valves was the norm.
Note the grey LS3/1 O/B speaker for monitoring, and Goodmans Maxim for talkback or prefade.?  (Blackpool Outside Broadcast)

Black and white pictures taken at a Blackpool  NDO Outside broadcast.

In 1972 David mixed the only LP that the NDO made, at Strawberry Studios, Stockport.
He mixed the tracks on CD2 of our new ‘Make way for music’ CD set - recorded on similar equipment !
