We were saddened to learn of the passing of Bernard Herrmann - flautist with the NVO / NDO and conductor of the NDO from 1961 - 1972, in October 2015, aged 85
He was a musicians musician and took the NDO to even greater success than his predecessor Alyn Ainsworth.
He also found fame as conductor of the Orchestra for the ‘Good Old Days’, and as a composer and arranger.
At the start of the project I had the pleasure of talking to him about his career with the NDO, of whom he said that he was so proud to have been the conductor of a Band containing such world class musicians who became great friends. After he left the NDO he joined the Midland Radio Orchestra.
We send our condolences to all of his family
