Great credit must go to Mike Hall the Musical Director, he listened to my CD's, and hit exactly the right tempos. His attention to detail made a good concert something special. The solos were certainly as good as I have heard anywhere. With the radio 3 live broadcast too I am so pleased that this Band of students is getting the recognition it rightly deserves, and I'm sure that we will be seeing some of them in the future in other famous bands.
That wasn't just a good concert, it was exquisite from all aspects, and proves beyond any shadow of doubt that the excellent music of the NDO still lives on with a new generation of musicians, some 40 years after the band last played.
Lovely to talk to Clare Teal about the NDO and our future plans on her programme on Sunday 7 Dec. This should be on i player for a while if you wish to catch up- appx 21.17 on Radio 2.
The Music of the NDO - some sadly now unavailable
Superb playing by the RNCM Big Band ( 10 December 2014 ), did full justice to the unique scores we have retrieved. Close your eyes and you really could believe that the NDO were back on stage - The band clearly loved it, the audience gave 3 curtain calls, and the band played an encore !
